FAQs

How do I know if my medical bill is wrong?

Medical bills can be confusing, and errors are surprisingly common.

You may not know if your hospital bill or doctor’s office bill is wrong. But something might not seem right — for example if you were billed thousands of dollars for a brief, 15-minute visit to the doctor, you might be caught off guard.

Upload your bill to Alligator and we’ll help pin down what may have gone wrong and how to fix it.

Should I pay my medical bill now?

If you wait to pay your bill, you can work with Alligator to find out whether or not you’ve been billed the wrong amount so we can chat with your doctor about correcting it. That way you don’t end up overpaying and not getting those savings back.

What do I do about my insurance if my medical bill was wrong?

Once we’ve identified the issue, we’ll help contact your insurance company to report it and have it corrected. The amount your insurance will cover will depend on the final bill we land on from your doctor. We’ll guide you through disputing the charges and help you verify that your insurance processed the claim correctly.

Why did I get a bill when I have insurance?

Even with insurance, you might receive a bill due to deductibles, co-pays, uncovered services, or billing mistakes. Alligator helps you understand what your insurance should cover and whether your bill is accurate — so you’re not stuck paying more than you owe.

What is an EOB?

An Explanation of Benefits, or “EOB”, is a summary from your insurance company that explains what was billed, what they covered, and what you may owe. It’s not a bill. Alligator Health helps you decode your EOB and make sure your provider billed your insurance correctly.

Can Alligator help with out-of-network charges?

Yes. We help you understand why an out-of-network bill appeared, whether it was valid, and how to negotiate or appeal it. Many patients are charged out-of-network rates without realizing it — we’ll help you fight back.
